About the Powerball Lottery and Its Jackpot

Founded in America, the Powerball lottery has produced more mega-millionaires than any other jackpot game in the world. It currently holds the record for the highest payout ever at an astounding $2.04 billion (source).

The least you can win from the big jackpot is $20 million, but looking at all winners since 2002, it is evident that it often pays more than $100 million (source). The grand prize is a progressive jackpot that rapidly increases as a huge number of people are playing the lottery every week.

While we have created a complete guide on how the Powerball lottery is played, we can tell you that it consists of 69 normal numbers where five are picked at random on each draw. A Powerball number is also chosen out of a pool of 26.

As illustrated in the image below, you have to pick six numbers to play and to win the grand prize, you have to match all of them. The odds of doing this is 1 in 292 million. This makes it harder to win this lottery jackpot than it is to win most other jackpots that exist. However, winners are still made regularly and the rewards speak for themselves.

When playing this jackpot lottery online, know that there may be an optional Powerplay feature you can choose to include in your lottery ticket by paying an extra fee. At every draw, a random multiplier of up to x10 will be revealed. If you bought the Powerplay feature, this multiplier will multiply all your winnings, except for the grand prize.

With the Powerplay feature, matching 5 normal numbers alone could win you $20 million and up to $5 million with just 4 normal numbers and the Powerball number. It’s no wonder this lottery is incredibly popular and considered to be one of the best jackpot lotteries in the world.

About the Mega Millions Lottery and Its Jackpot

Just like the Powerball lottery, Mega Millions was created in the US. It launched as “The Big Game” in 1996 but was eventually rebranded to what it is known as today (source).

There are many similarities to Powerball and one of them is the rate at which this jackpot lottery produces mega-millionaires. Looking at all winners over the past 20 years, people are regularly winning massive amounts of hundreds of millions (source).

The fact is that Mega Millions has been incredibly close to beating the record jackpot prize by handing out a massive $1.60 billion in 2023. It is more difficult to win the big money from this jackpot lottery though; the odds are 1 in 302 million.

To play the Mega Millions lottery, you have to pick five lucky numbers out of 70 and one Megaball number out of 20. Just like the Powerball, the big jackpot prize is won by matching all of them.

The Mega Millions lottery also comes with an optional Megaplier feature. This costs approximately 90 cents extra to play and will multiply all your winnings by x2 – x5 (except for the grand jackpot). This allows for a second prize – won by matching only 5 normal numbers – to pay up to $5 million.

About the EuroMillions Lottery and Its Jackpot

Founded in 2004, there have been a couple of changes to how the big prize in EuroMillions works – something that makes this lottery quite an interesting one and perhaps the best jackpot lottery to play. As of February 2020, EuroMillions has a soft-capped maximum prize, which is currently €250 million (source).

Every time the cap is reached, and after the jackpot has been won, it increases by €10 million for the next cycle. However, when the cap is reached, the current jackpot is also paid out as a 2nd prize instead of a 1st, which heavily increases the chances of winning it.

With a win chance of 1 in 140 million, the grand prize is already the easiest to win among our listed lotteries. However, when the jackpot hits the cap, the win chance becomes 1 in 7 million, which is lower than most other jackpots that can pay these swindling amounts.

Buying a lottery ticket, you have to choose a total of seven numbers. Five of these are normal ones picked from a pool of 50, while two are lucky star numbers picked from a pool of 12. Unless the soft cap is reached, you have to match all of them to win the big money and become a millionaire.

Whenever the jackpot reaches its current cap and it isn’t won, you only have to match your five normal numbers with one of the lucky star numbers. Should be easy enough, right?

Two EuroMillions draws are held weekly and plenty of operators offer entries to win the lottery jackpot online. If you’re feeling lucky, check out the lottery sites below that we highly recommend.
