Argonauts Review: All Ship, No Treasure

Alright, another ‘epic journey’ slot has sailed in, this time with the Argonauts. On the surface, it’s a standard 5-reel, 3-row, 10-payline affair. Don’t get too excited, though; this voyage feels more like a slow crawl than a mythical quest.

The main event is supposed to be the “Golden Fleece Bonus,” a hold-and-win feature that triggers with a whopping 6 or more Bonus symbols —and trust me, you’ll be waiting a while for that. When it finally hits, you get prizes from shield symbols, which range from a pathetic 1x to 16x your bet. Let’s be clear: a 1x multiplier isn’t a prize, it’s just getting your money back. The so-called Jackpots are just 20x, 50x, or 150x your bet, which is hardly life-changing. There’s a 5000x “Extra Jackpot” if you fill the screen with 15 symbols, but you’ve got a better chance of finding the real Golden Fleece.

The one half-decent feature is the Free Games round. Land 3 Scatters and you get 8 spins where only the high-paying symbols are on the reels. This is where you

might actually see a decent win, but with only 8 spins, it’s often over before you know it. It can be re-triggered, but don’t hold your breath.

To round out the uninspired package, they’ve slapped on a classic Risk Game to double your winnings. It’s a feature from a decade ago, and it feels like it.

Baba’s Verdict:

Look, this slot isn’t broken, it’s just boring. It’s a low-paying grind dressed up in a mythic theme. The bonus game is weak, the free spins are too brief, and the whole thing lacks any real punch.

It’s a hard pass from me.
