The Star Ratings Explained
Every game gets a score, but what does it mean for your experience? Here’s the Baba-approved breakdown.
- ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (5 Stars) – Baba’s Verdict: A Must-Play!
- What it means: The complete package. A 5-star game has great stats (high RTP, big win potential), killer features, an engaging theme, and is just plain fun. We’d happily spend our own money and time on these.
- ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (4 to 4.9 Stars) – Baba’s Verdict: A Solid Spin
- What it means: A great game that’s a blast to play but might be missing one small element of true greatness—maybe the RTP is just average, or the theme is a bit generic. Still a top-tier choice you won’t regret playing.
- ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (3 to 3.9 Stars) – Baba’s Verdict: Decent, But Forgettable
- What it means: A 3-star game is perfectly fine. It works, it’s fair, but it doesn’t do anything new or exciting. It’s the filler content that makes up the bulk of a casino’s lobby. It’ll pass the time, but you won’t remember it tomorrow.
- ⭐ ⭐ (2 to 2.9 Stars) – Baba’s Verdict: A Bit of a Dud
- What it means: These games have significant flaws. It could be a very low RTP, boring gameplay, outdated graphics, or a confusing interface. There are far better options out there for you to spend your money on.
- ⭐ (1 to 1.9 Stars) – Baba’s Verdict: Hard Pass
- What it means: A waste of a click. These games are either technically poor, have terrible stats, or are just mind-numbingly boring. Avoid them.
The Core Pillars of Our Game Ratings
Our final score is based on three key areas of analysis.
Pillar 1: The Numbers (The Hard Data)
This is the mathematical foundation of any good game.
- RTP (Return to Player): The most important stat. We look for games at or above the 96% industry average. Anything below 95% gets a serious knock in its score.
- Volatility & Max Win: We tell you if you’re in for a long, steady grind (low volatility) or a high-risk, high-reward thrill ride (high volatility). We then check if the max win potential justifies the risk.
- Betting Limits: Is this a game for penny-pinchers or high-rollers? We check the min and max bet to see who the game is really built for.
Pillar 2: The Gameplay (The Fun Factor)
A game can have great stats, but if it’s boring, who cares?
- Features & Mechanics: This is where the magic happens. We look for innovative base game mechanics (like Megaways or Cluster Pays) and rewarding bonus features. Are the free spins exciting? Are there cool multipliers? A great feature set is key to a high score.
- Theme, Graphics & Sound: A game needs to look and sound good. We rate the quality of the graphics, the creativity of the theme, and the sound design. A generic theme with clunky graphics and annoying sounds will get a low score.
Live Dealer Experience: For live games, we look beyond the rules and payout tables. We rate the entire atmosphere. Is the studio well-designed and the environment fun? Are the hosts professional, engaging, and thematically dressed for the game they’re hosting? We also check for a high-quality, stable video stream and a user-friendly interface. A boring host in a bland studio will always score lower, even if the game itself is fine. - Mobile Experience: We test every game on a mobile device. Does it work smoothly in both portrait and landscape mode? Are the buttons easy to use on a small screen?
Pillar 3: Trust & Fairness (The Foundation)
None of the above matters if the game isn’t fair.
- Provider Reputation: Who made the game? A slot from a titan like NetEnt, Play’n GO, or Pragmatic Play comes with an inherent level of trust and quality. A game from an unknown or dodgy provider is a major red flag.
- Fairness Certification: We check that the game providers are audited by independent testing labs like eCOGRA or iTech Labs. This ensures the Random Number Generator (RNG) is truly random and the outcomes are fair.
- Provably Fair Technology: For crypto and crash games, this is the gold standard. It’s a system that allows you, the player, to independently verify that the outcome of every round was random and wasn’t tampered with by the operator. It’s the ultimate proof of a fair game, and any title that uses it gets a massive trust boost in our ratings.
Calculating the Final Score
While we love fun features, the numbers don’t lie. The Hard Data (especially RTP) and Trust & Fairness carry the most weight in our scoring. A game can look amazing, but if it has a terrible RTP or is made by a shady provider, it will never get a high score from us. The Fun Factor is what we use to separate a good game from a truly great one.
