The Nagaland Lottery is run by the Directorate of Nagaland State Lotteries, which was established in 1972 under the supervision of the State Finance Department. Despite limited manpower and market, the State has brilliantly managed to run its lottery operations with utter success.

Rising from humble beginnings, the Department has been able to conduct draws safely and transparently, thus creating winners and generating substantial revenue for the State. In fact, Nagaland lotteries are so popular now that they are widely played even in other Indian States such as Sikkim and West Bengal.

Nagaland Lottery Ticket

Every Nagaland Lottery ticket is printed at a Government press in batches. The task is carried out only after the approval of the Director of State Lotteries, Government of Nagaland.

The concerned officer must also announce in advance the total number of tickets to be printed, their gross value, price per ticket, name of the schemes, name and address of the sellers, prize structure, total prize money, periodicity, draw location, and procedure of the draw.

Presently, the minimum rate of a government lottery ticket in Nagaland cannot go down below ₹2. The price must be clearly mentioned on each ticket along with the name of the draw, first prize amount, super prize amount, if any, draw date and time.

Each ticket should also come with a scannable QR code, which is unique to it. The official logo of the Lottery Department must be clearly printed and an overleaf attached mentioning other important details.

Please note that Nagaland State Lottery tickets are never sold online. The only way to buy one is to get one from an authorized seller, vendor or dealer.

How to Play the Nagaland Rajya Lottery?

Since State Nagaland Rajya Lottery is a paper lottery, you can play it in these 8 simple steps:

  1. Check the official site to choose from the available Nagaland lottery schemes.
  2. Decide on the date on which you plan to enter the draw.
  3. Buy the paper ticket from an authorized local seller.
  4. Write your full name and address at the space provided on the ticket.
  5. Store the ticket in a safe place so you don’t damage or lose it.
  6. Wait for the draw date to arrive and keep your fingers crossed.
  7. Check the results on the official site or local dailies.
  8. Prepare to claim the reward if you win; retry if you lose.

Currently, buying physical paper tickets is your only shot at playing the State lottery in Nagaland. There is no provision for purchasing tickets online.

Every now and then, you might come across vendors and dealers trying to sell tickets online. Most of them will take the payment upfront and courier the tickets to you.

Although convenient, such sales are deemed illegal as per the Lottery laws in India. In short, it is safer to purchase Nagaland lotto tickets offline.

After you buy a ticket, don’t forget to jot down your name and address in the provided space. It is one way of ensuring proof of purchase and ownership. Even if you win, you might be denied the reward if you cannot prove that it was you who bought the ticket.

Moreover, rewards are not handed out for lost or torn tickets, which is why you must keep it safe. At least until the draw and then until you claim your prize if a win is registered.

The draws are conducted in Kohima – the capital of Nagaland – in the State Lottery Department’s hall. You don’t have much of a role here because the organizers use a physical lottery machine to conduct the draws.

This machine comes integrated with random number generation technology. Every time it is spun, a combination of numbers shows up on the screen, which determines whether you win or lose. The officers in charge verify the drawn number so it matches the number of any of the sold tickets.

Numbers that don’t match are discarded and the draw performed again. Numbers that match are noted down on a prize register and declared the winning numbers. If lady luck favors you, the drawn number would surely match the one on your ticket.

How to Check Nagaland Lottery Results?

These are the 7 best ways to check Nagaland Lottery results:

  1. Visit the venue at the time of the draw. You would be able to watch the numbers being pulled and know the outcome instantly.
  2. Check the official YouTube channel. You can watch the Nagaland State Lottery live. The draws will be streamed in real-time and the results declared immediately.
  3. Browse the official website of Nagaland Lotteries. The results will be published soon after the draw is over in PDF and DBF formats. You can view old results as well.
  4. Search on Google. Multiple websites and news portals publish the results daily and religiously.
  5. Resort to social media. Nagaland’s Lottery Department has set up its handles across several channels, including Facebook and Twitter. Get in touch with them.
  6. Install a Nagaland State Lottery app. Although there isn’t an official app yet, numerous developers on Play Store have published apps that keep you updated with the results – old and latest.
  7. Subscribe to a local newspaper that publishes the results. It is your best bet if you’re not tech savvy or don’t have access to the Internet.

How to Claim Your Nagaland State Lottery Prize?

If you win a Nagaland State Lottery prize amounting to ₹10,000 or less, you can claim it directly from the local lottery agent from whom you bought the tickets.

Prizes above ₹10,000 have to be claimed from the Kolkata Nagaland Office by submitting the claim supported by relevant documents to the Director or Nagaland State Lotteries himself.

Follow these 7 steps to claim your Nagaland State lotto winnings.

  1. Download the application for lottery prize claim from the official website and print it.
  2. Write down the prize-winning ticket number, lottery name, draw number, and date of draw correctly.
  3. Paste a duly signed recent passport size photograph in the space provided.
  4. Enter your full name, postal address, rank of the prize, PAN number, banking details, contact number, and other information in the required fields.
  5. Sign the application form and enclose the original winning ticket as well as a photocopy indicating your address on the back side and duly attested by a Gazetted Officer or Notary Public.
  6. Attach a copy each of your PAN card, national ID proof, 4 passport size photographs, a cancelled cheque leaf of your bank account, and an Affidavit of ownership from any 1st Class Magistrate or Notary Public.
  7. Send everything to the Director or Nodal Officer of the Directorate of Nagaland State Lotteries by post.
  8. Wait for the claim to be processed and money credited to you via Demand Draft or Net Banking.

Are Nagaland State Lotteries Safe?

Nagaland State Lotteries are among the safest Government lotteries in India. From printing tickets in Government-approved presses to issuing Lottery sale permits to authorized agents, the State makes sure that every operation is conducted with honesty and integrity.

The procedure of each draw is announced in advance by the Director himself. The draws are performed under the supervision of a center-appointed panel of judges for added transparency. Yet, the risks of counterfeit tickets exist.

Moreover, buying a paper ticket itself is a major inconvenience. This is why I urge lottery players to try out international lotteries instead.

Can I Play the Nagaland Lottery Online?

Currently, you cannot play the Nagaland Lottery online. Although the State of Nagaland is allowed to organize a paper lottery or online lottery, or both, as per the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, it runs only a paper lottery at the moment. You can, however, view Nagaland State Lottery results online. But that isn’t what playing the lottery online should be.

If you are looking to play online lottery in Nagaland, why not try international lottery sites? You can enter the biggest world lottos such as the US Powerball and Mega Millions and hit a life-changing jackpot.

Moreover, the procedure of purchasing a ticket and claiming a win isn’t as taxing as that of State Government lotteries. If you’re unsure which site to choose, check out these 3 sites I’ve picked for you.
