The Game in Short
In Fan Tan, a large number of beads are put together on a table. A random number of beads are then selected by covering part of them with a tumbler. The selected beads are then sorted into piles of four. Whichever amount is left in the last pile is the winning number of the round.
So, what’s the goal of the game?
Simply to guess the number of beads in the last pile. You can either bet on the exact number or the amount being low, high, odd or even. There are also three special bets known as Nim, Kwok and Ssh.
My opinion of Fan Tan is that the game is best suited for players who are looking for the most basic form of entertainment. It doesn’t float my boat at all as it is way too simple with no real excitement. However, the same can pretty much be said about Andar Bahar so if you like this game, you may very well like Fan Tan as well. You should know that it’s quite a quiet game.
Fan Tan is a game of small winnings that have a high probability of occurring. The most you can win on a single game round is your bet amount multiplied by 3.85. Compared to many live dealer games that can pay hundreds or even thousand times your stake, this is peanuts.
However, the small winnings do mean that you are likely to win quite often, which also means that your balance is likely to remain quite stable. It’s a low volatile game that plays well if you’re on a small budget.
The RTP is also high which is great. If you play optimally, you will reach a payback percentage of 98.75%. This is higher than most games offered by gambling sites.
In Fan Tan, the RTP varies depending on the bet you decide to place, which means that there is an optimal strategy to follow if you want to maximize your chances of winning. This strategy is to always bet on any of the Ssh positions, meaning that you’re betting on three single numbers with one bet. In other words, there is only one number that can appear which will make you lose.
To elaborate on this, check the table below where I have listed the RTP for each bet in the game.
The worst long term bet to place is on a single number. If you want to minimize losses or maximize winnings, you should definitely stay away from this. However, this bet is ironically also the one that pays the most if you win.
