About TAB (Formerly TAB Online)
Look, if you’re searching for an all-in-one circus of casino games, sports and lottery draws, you can stop reading now.
Backed by 4Racing, TAB is a premier tote betting operator in South Africa since 2018. With its revamp from the old Play.Tabonline.co.za to the new TAB.co.za website and app, it still majorly focuses on being the undisputed king of tote betting in the country. However, this time, it has diversified its offerings to include lucky number games as well.
This isn’t a flaw; it’s a deliberate strategy. By undergoing a facelift, they’ve created a sharp and innovative platform designed for one type of player: the serious Mzansi tote bettor. Operating with a license from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, they’ve carved out a niche as a trusted name for those who are here to bet, not to play around. While most South African gambling sites try to do everything all at once, TAB proves there’s power in doing less, but doing it well.
Here’s how they have improved in 2025:

So, you see, it’s not just a revamp, but a full reset. The new TAB is exactly what Saffas deserve, and that’s what they got!
The TAB Experience: Products & Games
Let’s be crystal clear: the product suite here is primarily sports. You won’t find a casino lobby, but they have started including lottery tickets recently. What you will basically find is a curated sportsbook that zeroes in on the top sports that South African punters love: Soccer, Horse Racing, Greyhound Racing and Rugby. And then, a few lucky number games—both local and global.
TAB isn’t a site trying to be a master of all trades; it’s a master of some. The strategic decision to be a tote betting haven means almost all their focus goes into those few sports, their odds, markets, and the user experience for betting. For players who live and breathe tote betting on horses, soccer, greyhounds and rugby, this is a huge advantage. They offer key features like live betting, so you’re right in the action. Their heavy emphasis on the ponies makes them a top destination for South African horse race bettors.
Mobile and Accessibility
In the modern betting world, if you don’t have a solid mobile game, you’re already losing. TAB clearly gets this. That’s why they have an app for iOS, which is a massive tick in my book. For Android users, the desktop site turns into a mobile site when accessed. You get a streamlined, built-for-purpose app-like experience without having to download any APK. This commitment to on-the-go betting is a hallmark of the best sports betting apps, and TAB is playing in the big leagues here.
Banking & Payments
Getting money in and out is dead simple here. They cover all the key local bases, from bank payments like absa, Capitec Pay, FNB, NEDBANK, and Standard Bank to modern fintech solutions like Ozow and SiD secure EFT. They even have options like MTN MoMo.
The minimum deposit is a reasonable R50. While not the absolute lowest on the market, it’s a respectable entry point, although it pales compared to other minimum deposit betting sites in South Africa. But here’s the real kicker: you get Same day payouts. This puts them in the top tier, competing with the fastest payout betting sites in the game, although the banking hours are limited (Monday – Saturday: 8 AM to 9 PM and Sunday: 8 AM to 6 PM). When you win, you get your cash right away if you request a payout within those hours. No messing about.

Baba’s Verdict: The Expert Take
Alright, let’s cut the crap. TAB is a throwback, and I mean that as a compliment. It’s a bookie in the purest sense. There are no dancing mascots or flashy slot animations to distract you. It’s a tool built for a specific job: giving SA punters the best tote betting experience. Although it has spread out into other genres like lucky numbers, their legacy attracts an audience who is here for the next greyhound or horse race, the next soccer event, or the weekend’s big rugby match, not to spin a wheel. By focusing on that, they’ve created a platform that’s sharp, fast, and reliable. It’s a workhorse, not a show pony. And for a degen like me who values substance over style, that’s a beautiful thing.

Conclusion: Is TAB Right For You?
So, let’s wrap it up.
Who is TAB For? 🤔
It’s for the tote betting purist. If you love horse racing, greyhound racing, soccer or rugby, and want a dedicated platform with no distractions, this is your spot. You value a bookie that focuses on getting the fundamentals right.
Who is it Not For? 🙅♂️
If you’re an all-rounder who enjoys mixing sports betting with a few spins on the slots or a live casino session, you’ll be disappointed. This is not a one-stop entertainment shop. If variety is what you crave, you need to look elsewhere.
